Silas Engebretson

Silas (Si) Engebretson, 88, of McVille, ND died Friday, August 16, 2013 in Wheatridge, CO. He suffered a stroke while visiting family and spent his last days in the loving care of Collier Hospice.

Silas was born July 9, 1925 in McVille, ND. He married Harriet Gullickson December 28, 1947. During their 65 years of marriage, he was a farmer and a grain elevator manager. They enjoyed winters in Weslaco, TX in their retirement years. His love of trees gave him many years of enjoyment planting them at Pleasantview Farm, the city of McVille, and the McVille Golf Course. It was Si's love of golf and trees that led to many years of tireless efforts at the McVille Golf Course, leaving a lasting legacy for all. He took up golf in his 50's and it became a hobby he would enjoy for the rest of his days. At 82, he hit a hole in one while playing with friends in Weslaco, TX.

Silas is survived by his wife Harriet; children, Mary (Jerry), Dean (Trudy), Sharry (Craig), and Paul (Diane); grandchildren, Justin, Tore, Adam, Andrew, Philip, Michael, Amy, Brian, and Kayla; 6 great grandchildren, Dylan, Kaia, Suzanna, Charles, Charlotte, and Zoey.

Silas was preceded in death by his parents, Einar and Olea.

The celebration of his 88 years will be held Friday, August 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Interment will be in the McVille Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to the Trees for ND Trust Fund in Si's name: ND State Forester, 307 1st ST E, Bottineau, ND 58318-1100.
