Sydney L. Haas

Sydney Lofthus Haas, age 96, of Tolna, ND, died Saturday, May 4, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family in Tolna, ND.  Sydney was born June 1, 1927, the son of Jesse & Bertha (Lofthus) Haas, with the assistance of his midwife aunt, Ingeborg Lofthus, in rural McVille, ND.

On February 28, 1947, Sydney married his childhood sweetheart, Delores Jean Ward, at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.  The couple lived and farmed near Tolna for 54 years.

Sydney enjoyed playing guitar in the Haas Family Band and along with his wife, gave their family a love of music.  Many evenings were spent at home playing tunes.  Sydney’s carpentry work can be found in many homesteads, from buildings to picture frames.

He will be remembered and deeply missed by his 4 sons, Daryl (Margie) Haas of Fertile, MN, Gary Haas of Grand Forks, ND, Dale Haas of Tolna, and Wayne (Tami) Haas of Spokane, WA; 1 daughter, Laura Beth (Brian) Reid of Tolna; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Duane (Bonnie) Haas of Oswego, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores Jean; and brothers, Charles and Vernon.

A Committal Service will be held at the Tolna Cemetery, Tolna, ND, on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held at American Lutheran Church in Tolna at 11:00 a.m. following the Committal Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the charity of your choice.
