Terrence A. Halvorson, age 85, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of Lawton, ND, died Monday, September 22, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.
Terrence Anthony Halvorson was born January 10, 1929 at McVille, ND, the son of Rudolph O. and Nora K. (Donohue) Halvorson. He was raised on the farm near Pekin, ND and attended Sheyenne #2 country school. Terrence began farming at the age of 14. He attended Tolna High School, graduating with the class of 1946. He continued farming while during the winter months, he would attend classes at Valley City State College and Dakota Business College in Fargo. He moved to St. Paul, MN in 1957 and worked for ten years at Farmers Union Central Exchange in South St. Paul, where he became manager of the fertilizer division. Terrence was united in marriage to Carol A. Fazendin on October 27, 1962 in St. Paul. In 1964 they purchased land near Lawton, but continued living in St. Paul until 1968, when they moved to Lakota. One year later they purchased a neighboring farm and this became the Halvorson family farm. Terrence was devoted to farming and was proud to say he raised 60 crops. He served on the Newbre Township board, yet his greatest devotion was his family.
Terrence will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol of Lakota; 4 children, Mary Halvorson of Valley City, ND; Thomas (Stephanie) Halvorson of Bismarck, ND and their children Jessica, Jayden & Paige; Steven (Paula) Halvorson of Lawton and their children Allison, Evan & Hannah; Teresa (Mike) Gerbig of Dickinson, ND and their children Logan & Taylor; 4 brothers, Eugene "Dennis" of Redding, CA, Arthur (Marie) of Lakota, Aloyus (Arlene) of Rosemount, MN, and Murill of Fargo, ND; sisters-in-law, Marie L. Halvorson of Pekin and Liv Halvorson of McVille; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph Terrence Halvorson; 2 brothers, Daniel and LaVerne; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Halvorson and Sylvia Halvorson.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Lakota, ND, on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Steven J. Meyer. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Thursday, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
