Thelma J. Haabak

Thelma Jane Haabak, age 87, of McVille, ND died on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Nelson County Hospital in McVille.

Thelma was born to John and Rosa (Haugen) Odde on June 4, 1929 in McVille, ND. She attended McVille Public School and was confirmed at McVille Lutheran Church. Thelma married Leland Haabak on June 19, 1949. The couple owned and operated the Commercial Hotel and CafAC. in McVille. They retired in 1982. They had 3 children, Richard, Bonita, and Marilyn. Leland passed away on July 10, 2007. Thelma enjoyed early retirement and enjoyed her winters in Mexico and Rapid City, SD.

Thelma enjoyed crocheting, going to rummage sales, baking, and shopping. She also enjoyed playing computer games, watching game shows, babysitting, and sun tanning. Most of all, Thelma loved spending time with her friends and family.

Thelma is survived by her children, Richard (Gayle) Haabak of McVille, ND, Bonita (Eduardo) Romano of Akumal, Mexico, and Marilyn (John) Dehne of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Megan (Brad) Tveit, Fairview, MT, Jesse Haabak, Grand Forks, ND, LizBeth “Libby” Haabak, Hillsboro, ND, Teddy Robinette, Fargo, ND, Heather (Tom) Olstad, Burnsville, MN, Michael Baumgartner, Fargo, ND, Montgomery Baumgartner, Fargo, ND, Brandan Dehne, Orlando, FL, and Suann Dehne, New Richmond, WI; great grandchildren, Timmy and Anna Mae Robinette, Landon and Thea Tveit, Tanner, Justis, Aspyn, and Anya Dehne; sister Annie May Johnson; many special nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Marie.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in New Luther Valley Lutheran Church in McVille. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday starting at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Valley Grove Cemetery, rural Kloten, ND.
