Wanda Jean Hummel, 69, Petersburg, ND, passed away at her home on October 12, 2026.

Wanda was born on November 22, 1956, the daughter of Eldora (Swanson) Bishop, in Illinois. Wanda’s greatest passion was being a mother and caring for children. With an open heart to those in need, she dedicated much of her life to fostering children, welcoming many into her home throughout the years. Wanda was a devoted child advocate, striving to provide love, stability and support to those she cared for. Her passion for foster care led into the adoption of 2 children, further growing her family and the love she had to give. Through her kindness and compassion, Wanda touched the lives of countless children, leaving a lasting impact on those she cared for.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Gary; children, Stacey, Joseph, Jonathan (Kristen), and Valentina (Ryan); 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny.

To honor Wanda’s wishes, private family services will be held.
