Wayne L. Short

Wayne L. Short, age 78, of Aneta, ND, was called home Monday, February 22, 2016 at Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille, ND.

Wayne was born June 10, 1937 in Winston County, AL to Luke and Vassie (Weldon) Short. He was the fifth of seven children. Wayne grew up in Bessemer, AL and attended McNeil School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958. While stationed at the Finley Air Base he met his wife Marilyn Lind. After the birth of his second daughter Wayne and Mern moved back to Alabama where a third daughter was born. It was while working for Pullman Standard that he found his true calling at the Bessemer Fire Department. He went back to school earning an Associate Degree in Fire Science and became a paramedic. Upon retirement he and Mern moved to Aneta, ND.

Wayne was very active and enjoyed scuba diving, kayaking, skydiving, and driving dune buggies and motorcycles. He and Mern took many motorcycling trips including cross country. Family history became an interest of his in later years. Above all else Wayne loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing with others how the Lord had worked in his life. He was a member of Assembly of God Church in Finley.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mern; daughters Dawn Edwards, Pam Short, and Joni (Mark Curren) Hamilton; granddaughter Hanna Hamilton; 3 great grandchildren Reyes, Yamilex, and Aiden; brothers Willard (JoLane) Short, Carlos (Noma Lee) Short; sisters Margarite Slauffer and Geraldine (Walt) Spesert; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Jack and Vera Lind, brother Tyler (Sandra) Short, sister Sherry, grandson Graham, and great granddaughter Arianna.
