Wesley A. Shobe

Wesley A. Shobe, age 92, resident of McVille, ND, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille.

Wesley Alton Shobe was born May 19, 1932 in Judson, ND, to Clarence and Hannah (Trytten) Shobe.  He attended school in Reynolds, ND and graduated from McVille High School in 1951.  He attended University of North Dakota for one year, then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS.  Wes married Madeline Bothun on January 30, 1955.  Wesley worked in a family business, Shobe Construction, in Devils Lake, then moved to Casper, WY working for Bunny Bread.  The family moved to Brainerd, MN in 1966, working for Metz Baking Company, retiring in 1995.  After Madeline’s death, he moved back to his hometown of McVille.

Wesley is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hannah Shobe; his wife, Madeline Shobe; brother, Ken Shobe; sister-in-law, Candace Shobe; and brother-in-law, Robert Arneson.

He is survived by a sister, Gaynelle Arneson; son, Alan (Holly) Shobe; 2 daughters, Julie (Jon) Starren and Jan (Tad) DeLay; grandchildren, Becca (Colten Dahle) DeLay, Aaron DeLay, and Samantha Shobe.  Madeline and Wes hosted foreign students from Italy and France, and numerous children through the Crow Wing County Foster Parent Program whom we also consider dearest family.

The family wishes to express it’s enormous thanks to the staff of Nelson County Care Center in McVille and to Hospice of the Red River Valley.  Memorials are preferred to these two wonderful organizations.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille, ND, on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.  Interment will be in the McVille Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
