Winifred “Winnie” Tangen, age 86, resident of Maple Grove, MN, formerly of Devils Lake, ND, died peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
Winnie was born in Clyde, Wisconsin and raised in White Earth, ND. She moved to Lakota, ND as a teenager working for the Andersons, the local banker. Winnie met Julian in Lakota and they were married June 16, 1949. Winnie worked in the retail grocery business in both Lakota and Devils Lake her whole working career.
She is survived by a son, Tom (Marla) Tangen; 3 grandchildren, Matthew (Keary) Tangen, Amanda (Ben) Purnick, and Melanie (Matt) Peternell; 3 great-grandchildren, Lilly Tangen, John Purnick, and William Peternell; and many other family and friends. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother & great-grandmother. Each of her grandchildren & great-grandchildren meant the world to her.
She was preceded in death by parents, Clarence & Mamie Lehman; husband, Julian; and infant daughter, Arlet Ann.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Reverend Paul Balaban, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. Interment will be at the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will take place for 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home.
