Yvonne R. Magnus

Yvonne R. Magnus, age 77, resident of rural Petersburg, ND, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Yvonne Rae Stavig was born October 8, 1937 in Ada, MN, the daughter of George and Carrie (Nelson) Stavig. She was raised there and eventually moved with her family to Petersburg, ND, where she attended high school, graduating with the class of 1955. Yvonne married Elton Magnus on October 23, 1956. They raised their family together on their farmstead south of Petersburg. Yvonne worked for 25 years as a CNA, primarily at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, where she was awarded Employee of the Year. She also served for 33 years as the clerk for Magnus Auction Service. She was an avid reader and loved solving crossword puzzles. She enjoyed staying busy with various types of handiwork. Over the years she had cross stitched many special projects for her children and grandchildren. Yvonne was actively involved with Ladies Aid at Lom Lutheran Church until it closed, then was involved at Petersburg Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and prayed daily devotions. She had a strong faith in God that contributed to her many qualities. She had a very kind and gentle spirit, was a humble and forgiving person, she always put everyone else’s needs before her own. She was also very talented musically, as she played the piano.

Yvonne will be deeply missed by her husband, Elton Magnus of Petersburg; 3 children, Loren (Julie) Magnus of Niagara, ND, Jeanine (Russell) Brown of Colgate, ND, and Douglas (Julie) Magnus of Bismarck, ND; 10 grandchildren, Kyle (Jamie) Magnus, Cassie (Garriet) Gestson, Craig Magnus, Chelsea Brown, Caitlin (Justin) Killoran, Christine Brown, Austin Brown, Micayla Brown, Kacie Gesellchen, and Abigayle Magnus; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Greg; and many aunts & uncles.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Petersburg Lutheran Church, Petersburg, ND, on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Yvonne will be laid to rest next to her son, Greg, in the Lom Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Petersburg. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Sunday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
